Story
My Dad, Glenn McCabe, passed away on the 24th of December last year after a long struggle with early-onset vascular dementia. This December, I’ll be running the Valencia Marathon in his memory
One in three people will develop dementia in their lifetime. It’s a cruel disease that slowly takes away the skills, memories, and independence that people spend their lives building.
Dad was only 49 when he first began showing symptoms of vascular dementia. Supporting younger people in this situation is where Dementia NI shines. The charity gave Dad — and many others — a sense of purpose, community, and a voice for change in local society. Helping find some positivity in what is otherwise a lonely and frightening prognosis.
In return for their support for Dad, and the guidance they offered my family, I want to give something back. By running this marathon, I hope to raise funds so Dimentia NI can continue to support people and families facing this disease
If you’re able to, please consider donating to my fundraising page — every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
