Story
I want to share this story, from my perspective as a husband and a father.
In 2023, our lives changed forever. My wife, Vicky, was told that her pregnancy was ectopic, a rare and life-threatening caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy.
I wasn’t there when those words were spoken. She was alone when she heard them, and that is something that still weighs heavily on me.
While Vicky faced surgery, I spent the night pacing hospital corridors with our daughter, trying to stay calm, trying to be strong, and not knowing if everything was going to be okay. Hours felt like days.
Eventually, we crossed paths with the surgeon, who told us the words I will never forget: Vicky was fine, and the surgery had gone well.
The relief in that moment is impossible to describe.
We were taken back to the room the NHS had provided for us on site, exhausted, shaken, and trying to process how close we had come to losing everything.
One moment we were planning for the future, the next we were grateful simply to still be together.
In the days that followed, as the shock began to settle, The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust became a source of support and clarity during a time that felt overwhelming.
A charity we hadn’t known existed, but one that helped us understand what had happened and reminded us that we weren’t alone.
Vicky shared her story in 2023, and even now it’s hard to believe this happened to our family.
The physical recovery was only part of it, the emotional impact stays with you, not just for the person who went through it, but for those who love them too.
If you or someone you know has experienced ectopic pregnancy, please know there is support available.
I’m dedicating this 100KM challenge to my wife, Vicky, for her courage, her strength, and everything she endured.
By raising money for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, I hope to honour her, and to help ensure other families receive the same support we did. 💜
