We make grants to amplify the impact of small charities

Story

Picture this: one man, one bike, and one overly ambitious attempt to conquer 220 miles from the Severn Bridge to the Humber Bridge in only one day! It's like a cycling version of "Mission Impossible," but with less espionage and more lyrca! Especially when you have only managed 147 miles, so far, in training...

Now, you may be wondering, why on earth would I subject myself to such feat? Well, besides the undeniable thrill of chafing thighs, sweaty brows and not being able to sit down for a week after the ride, I've been gearing up to the challenge since January, all in the name of charity!

As I pedal from one bridge to another, I’ll be supporting three remarkable charities close to my heart: The Matthew Good Foundation, Sailors Childrens Society, and Leeds Hospitals Charity. Trust me, the money raised will create a huge and positive impact for the charities.

The money raised from this page will go directly to the Matthew Good foundation, who will then grant a third of the funds to each of the chosen charities. The Foundation will use a third of the donations to amplify small, high impact and high potential charities through their work. Both myself and the group hold strong regard for the social good and impact the Foundation have on the communities we operate in.

One-third of the donations will be allocated to the Sailors Childrens Society, an organisation dedicated to offering continuous assistance to children whose parents are employed in the Maritime industry and are facing distressing circumstances, such as the loss of a loved one, terminal illness diagnosis, or marital relationship breakdown. Supporting remarkable charities like this, which provide essential aid to the families within the industries we engage with, holds great significance to me.

I’m proud to also be supporting Leeds Hospitals Charity, specifically the Neonatal Unit at St James’s Hospital. The remarkable unit and team played a vital role in the first two weeks of my twin daughters’ lives, Ella and Grace, who were born prematurely at 32 weeks. Now running around five years later, they leave a trail of chaos wherever they go!

So, mark your calendars for this July extravaganza, where I'll be pedalling away for the best part of 20 hours like a man possessed, determined to raise funds and eyebrows in equal measure!
