Tiny Lives is a charitable trust that helps to care for 800+ premature and sick newborn babies and their families each year. It supports the Newcastle Neonatal Service at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary that cares for babies from across the North East and Cumbria.

Story

Well well well, the Great North Run. Definitely one that's been on the bucket list to do, but I didn't think this is how it would come about!

Here's a little bit about how and why I'm running:

In 2024 Tyler and I were gearing up to welcome our newest addition to the family; a little lad scheduled for early December. Archie however, had other ideas...on September 18th, 11+ weeks before his expected arrival and whilst I was 300 miles away with work, Tyler was rushed to have an emergency C-section. Archie, under a fair amount of distress arrived weighing a measly 3lbs 7oz.

The next 72 hours were some of the scariest we'll ever experience. At times, we weren't sure whether the little man would make it but, thanks to the incredible work of the men and women in the RVI, he stabilised.

In total, we spent 10 weeks in the NICU - juggling working full time, looking after our daughter Molly and being in the ward as much as we could for Archie. We couldn't have done any of the above without the support from our families, close friends and Tiny Lives Trust.

Tiny Lives are a charity that help and support newborn babies and their families. They were there to provide practical and emotional support for Tyler and I, help financially with onsite parking passes, refreshments for Tyler so she didn't have to leave Archie for long and provided a support pack for Molly to help her feel included during the process. These are just a few examples of how they helped us during our time on the ward but there are so many more stories of how they've helped families during their time in hospital.

I could not be more honoured to run for Tiny Lives this year and feel this is only a small gesture of giving something back to a group of people that helped us through the toughest time as a family and ultimately come home as a four.

Anything you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Adam.
