Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 ·

Join Team Dementia UK in the Great North Run! Together we are running for more dementia specialist Admiral Nurses who provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.

Story

I'm taking part in the Great North Run to support families facing dementia in memory of my Nana who sadly passed away from Alzheimer's in January 2022. She was the most loving, kind-hearted, sociable, and skilled in both the kitchen and garden Nana in the world. Sadly, in the last few years of her life her memories of a life well lived and independence were slowly taken away by the cruellest of diseases. Though she was well cared in the last couple of years of her life in a friendly care home watching this disease slowly take over my full of life Nana was deeply upsetting to say the least.

I am running the Great North Run to fund the much needed care dementia nurses can give to ease the worries of other families until a cure can be found for this horrible disease. I have only started running in the past year and this will be the longest distance I have run by far but it is for a very worthy cause. Please donate whatever you can so families of, and those, living with dementia can get the help and support they desperately need.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
