Story
Hayley and a group of her close friends are running The Rob Burrow Marathon on Sunday May 10th. The team is comprised of Hayley, Helen Alston, Stephen Boddy, Nat Kerray, Ali McDonald and Martha Shutt.
This is a huge undertaking for all of us and we would love to have your support to help us on the day. Adam would have got round the course in just a few of his giant strides but it will take many more steps for us! We will have him with us in our hearts and minds on every one of those steps. The route through Adam's adopted home of Otley will be especially emotional for us all and we are looking forward to seeing many friendly faces at this point.
We are raising money and awareness about the horrible and rare form of cancer that Adam battled so bravely for so long; Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP). We are hoping this money and increased awareness will help avoid any future misdiagnosis of this disease and also hopefully, eventually to find a cure. We hope no other family has to go through the suffering Adam, Hayley, Eddie and Albie have endured.
We are very grateful for any support provided, either on here or in person on the day.
Thank you.
💙 In Loving Memory of Adam: A Courageous Life, A Lasting Legacy
Adam, our whole world, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, at Wheatfields Hospice. He fought a long and incredibly courageous six‑year battle with a rare disease called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP).
This page has been created in Adam’s memory — to honour his immense strength, to raise awareness of PMP, and to bring hope to others affected by this rare condition. 💫
All funds raised through this page and our ongoing fundraising efforts will go directly to Pseudomyxoma Survivor.
PMP is an extremely rare cancer, affecting only 3–4 people per million people each year, and is often overlooked. Pseudomyxoma Survivor focuses solely on PMP and related conditions, providing vital support to patients and families while funding crucial research into diagnosis and treatment.
Adam received specialist care through the Peritoneal Malignancy team in Basingstoke, working alongside The Christie. Their expertise gave us precious time and hope. Supporting this charity helps ensure specialist centres like these can continue improving outcomes — and keeps Adam’s fight going with real, direct impact. 🧬🤍
💪 Adam’s Fight and Legacy
Adam was diagnosed with PMP in February 2019, just two weeks after the birth of our youngest son. Often described as a “jelly‑like cancer of the peritoneum”, the disease began with a tumour on Adam’s appendix that ruptured, releasing mucin into his abdomen.
Later that year, Adam underwent a lifesaving 14‑hour Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and HIPEC procedure in Basingstoke — known as the MOAS (Mother of All Surgeries). This gruelling operation involved the removal of his spleen, omentum, peritoneum, gallbladder and belly button, alongside extensive tumour clearance.
While this surgery can sometimes be curative, and sadly wasn’t for Adam, it gave him — and us — precious, symptom‑free years filled with family life and memories we will always treasure. 💙
The disease returned in 2023. Although a bowel transplant was explored, complications meant it could not go ahead. In 2024, Adam underwent further debulking surgery, leaving him with complex health challenges including Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), a permanent stoma, and abdominal fistulas.
Despite being ruled out for a transplant and living with constant risks of infection and bowel obstruction, Adam never gave up hope. He continued fighting for his family with extraordinary courage and love. 🌟
His strength, determination and devotion to his boys remain his greatest legacy.
