Adam Swimming the English Channel Relay at 15 years old for Mencap

Adam Haworth is raising money for Mencap

Team: Beech Hall Mencap Marvels Centenary 2026

I’m swimming the English Channel this summer as part of a relay team

Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

This summer, I’ll be swimming the English Channel as part of a relay team, and I have chosen to support Mencap because their work supporting people with learning disabilities is something that means a lot to me personally.

As someone with dyslexia and autism, I understand how important support, understanding, and inclusion can be. I know that many people with learning disabilities face challenges every day, which is why I wanted to take on this challenge to help raise awareness and support for Mencap’s incredible work.

Swimming the English Channel will be one of the biggest challenges of my life so far. It has involved months of training, early mornings, cold-water swimming, and pushing myself both physically and mentally. But I want to prove that having dyslexia or autism should never stop someone from achieving something extraordinary.

I’m aiming to raise £2,000, and every donation — no matter the size — will help Mencap continue supporting people and families across the UK.

Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey. Together, we can make waves of change.
