We have chosen to raise funds for Immunodeficiency UK and kindly ask that, instead of sending flowers for David’s funeral, donations are made to this charity.

On Sunday 28th June, my dad and I will also be running the Barnsley 10k in memory of David. At 76, my dad said he feels he has one more 10k in him, and he’s determined to run it for David. It would mean a lot to us if you could come along and cheer us on. And if you’re able to donate a few pounds to support this cause, we would be truly grateful.

We wanted to support this cause because, 10 years ago, David was diagnosed with Primary Agammaglobulinemia. This is a condition that is usually diagnosed in early childhood, so for David to be diagnosed in his early 30s was extremely unusual.

Primary Agammaglobulinemia is a genetic disorder that prevents the body from producing antibodies, resulting in a severely weakened immune system and recurrent bacterial infections. Despite living with this condition, David never let it define him. He continued to pursue his passion for running and took part in many races over the years.

Sadly, when David became seriously ill on 25th February and was admitted to Barnsley Hospital, his condition made it extremely difficult to identify the cause of his illness. Heartbreakingly, David passed away on 25th March after a brave fight for his life.

In the hope of helping others living with a Primary Immunodeficiency, and to spare other families from experiencing the same pain, we want to do something positive during this difficult time. We would be deeply grateful for any donations made to support this important charity and help raise awareness of this condition.
