Story
Over the coming months, I am taking on 3 spectacular physical challenges in support of Maternity Worldwide. After a recent health scare, I have decided to set myself a series of challenges to improve my fitness and raise vital funds along the way.
August β Tour du Mont Blanc
I will be walking a 170km loop around Mont Blanc over 10 days, crossing through France, Italy and Switzerland. The route includes around 10,000m of elevation gain, with plenty of challenging climbs, descents and beautiful scenery along the way.
September β Danube Bike Ride
I will then swap my walking boots for a bike and cycle 380km along the Danube River through southern Germany over 7 days, travelling from Donaueschingen to Regensburg. I will be covering around 55km each day, following the river through the German countryside.
October β Yorkshire Marathon
Finally, I will be taking on the Yorkshire Marathon, running the 26.2 miles through York and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside. Hopefully I will still have something left in the tank by then!
Three challenges in three months, representing the Three Delays that women can experience when seeking and reaching care in low-income countries:
1. Delay in deciding to seek care
2. Delay in reaching care
3. Delay in receiving adequate care
Every two minutes, a woman dies from pregnancy and childbirth. Maternity Worldwide uses an integrated approach to tackle these barriers, working with communities and health systems in Malawi and Uganda to improve access to safe maternity care and to save lives.
It costs just Β£18 to ensure a safe birth for a mother and a baby. Please help me reach my target to save lives in childbirth!
Thank you so much for supporting me.
