Story
We don't need wedding presents - but singing brings us both great joy. A big part of that in the last couple of years has been York Opera, and we would be so very grateful for any donations you might make to them.
York Opera has been going for almost 60 years. Its entirely run by unpaid volunteers - even the Music and Stage directors. It one of the very few amateur opera companies left in the country still singing grand opera with full orchestra every year. It maintains its own scenery store and wardrobe where it makes sets and costumes. Standards are high - yet, remarkably, we have a policy of an not auditioning for chorus. Anyone who wants to sing opera - the greatest music ever written - can appear on stage with a twenty piece orchestra. Its an amazing experience. We have an open audition process for soloists (also unpaid) - enabling us to encourage young local talent, as well as drawing from the company. Adrian appearing as Banquo and Kaye as one of the witches in Verdi's Macbeth was a great experience for both of us.
