Kids' Village is building the UK's first respite holiday village just for children with critical illnesses and their families. A place where they can be themselves again and spend time with those closest to them for a well deserved respite break away from hospitals and the trauma of having a critical illness.

Story

Dear friends, I'm excited to be fundraising for Kids Village by participating in a Trek up Kilimanjaro on February 20th, 2024 to help create magical holidays for sick children and their families.

"KV" will be the UK’s first purpose-built holiday village in Staffordshire, in the heart of the UK, with planning to build 10 4-bedroom lodges & a central facility.

“Yes! I find overweight middle-aged people have the best chance of Summiting.” He said.

I am no ‘spring chicken’ any more. My last big mountain adventure was Mera Peak in the Himalayas in 2015, which was where the seed was sown:

On the return flight I sat next to a guide who said,

“I actually normally do ‘Kili’ trips”.

“Interesting”, I said, “Altitude acclimatisation is the big thing isn’t it? Climbing to nearly 20,000 feet in less than a week…?”

“Yes! I find overweight middle-aged people have the best chance of Summiting.” He said.

“Now that is a very specific demographic, you must expand!”

“Simple, they won’t be pushed, do things slowly and in their own time. Altitude can trip up the ‘sportier’ trekkers”

So, now I’m 55 and fully conform to the mental and physical conditioning required to give me the best chance of completing the Trek. I am really looking forward to the challenge, if not the Mosquitos!

My eldest daughter, Anna (now 26), was born with Cystic Fibrosis. For us, as a child, Anna only had ‘Make a Wish’ [fantastic BTW] – KV would have been perfect for us as a family in those difficult times. Now, thanks to Trikafta - the wonder drug, Anna is much better now and is even mum to our first grandson – ‘Ted’. Climbing Kilimanjaro for Kids Village is a great opportunity for me to pay a little bit back.

I hope you will be able to help us bring to life the building of this much needed respite centre for sick and terminally ill children and their families from all over the country.

My goal is to raise £5,000 for Kids Village, and every donation goes to KV and helps make a difference. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So please consider making a donation and thanks for reading my story.

Thank you so much for your support!

Very sincerely,

Adrian
