Story

If you are a parent, do you have any regrets about things you’ve said to your children ?

Maybe it was ‘We’ll get a puppy next year’. (Been there, done that.   I can attest to the fact that they remember...)

Or ‘The moon is made of green cheese’(especially if they went on to study astrophysics and you forgot to correct yourself)

Or perhaps you told them the Gruffalo was a true story…(guilty)

You might not even want to think that hard, worried about what memories might come to the fore !

But I’ll share with you the number one thing that I wish I’d never said, in the summer of last year.  It was

‘Of course I could run the Bath Half Marathon with you’

And so, whilst most fifty something accountants regard exertion as putting the pipe down, getting out of the armchair and adding another log to the fire, I’ve been trying to train for something that I really shouldn’t be doing.

How much training ?  I’ve heard it said that too much is never enough. And let’s just leave it that I haven’t done too much…

I’ve been asked what my target time is ?  Anything less than three days would be good.

And what of the others, I hear you ask ?  Well, I may be joined by Lizzie and Charly who are the villains of this story.  Although both now claim to be nursing injuries that might prevent them starting.  Do I feel stitched up or what ?

But never mind, it is all for a good cause - Macmillan Cancer Support

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.

That's why Macmillan will do whatever it takes to help everyone living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future.
