Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I’m doing the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on the 15th September 2024 to raise funds for Kidney Cancer UK and to raise awareness of Kidney Cancer.
Back in July 2023, I was admitted to A&E which turned out to be a Gall Bladder complaint. This diagnosis was confirmed by a CT Scan along with something else I was not expecting. I was told that I had a highly suspicious growth on my right kidney with a mass of 2.5cm. Within 3 weeks I had surgery to remove the growth and it was confirmed to be a Low Grade Renal Cell Carcinoma.
With the cancer removed my prognosis is excellent, but I will need to have a scan once a year for the next 5 years as a precaution. I've been incredibly lucky, without the Gall Bladder complaint, I'd be none the wiser.
Unfortunately for some, their prognosis is not so good, and they have a constant battle to survive and some lose their battle. It is for these brave people that I dedicate my challenge.
Most people who are diagnosed with kidney cancer do not have any symptoms. Most, like me are diagnosed insidently as part another investigation. Left undiagnosed or untreated, this can result in kidney loss, or metastases to the adrenal glands, lymph nodes, lungs, liver, brain and bones.
Kidney Cancer UK is the UK’s leading specialist kidney cancer charity here to listen, inform & support kidney cancer patients carers and their families.
Amongst the many things they do the vital funds raised by your generous fundraising events go towards raising awareness of the disease, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and supporting research into of a disease that sees over 12,500 diagnoses every year and almost 5,000 people lose their lives. This has to stop.
Thank you for your support.
