Story
In June 2027, I’ll be walking from Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast to Ravenscar on the North Yorkshire coast — a self-supported long-distance journey across the National Parks of the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, finishing by following the Lyke Wake route.
This is not a traditional sponsored challenge. I’m doing the walk as a personal adventure to mark the milestones of my retirement and my 60th birthday. However, because the route passes through hills, dales and moorland areas where Mountain Rescue teams provide such vital volunteer support, I’d like to use the journey to raise money and awareness for Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
Safety and sensible decision-making will come first throughout the walk. This isn’t a “complete at all costs” challenge — if weather, injury or circumstances mean plans need to change, they will. The fundraising is simply an opportunity for people to support Mountain Rescue as part of the journey.
Mountain Rescue volunteers are there for walkers, climbers, runners, vulnerable missing people and others in difficulty, often in remote places and challenging conditions. Any donation, large or small, will help support their work and would be very much appreciated.
Thank you for supporting the walk, and the volunteers who help keep our hills, moors and wild places safer.
Please note: JustGiving may ask if you would like to add an optional tip to support their platform. This tip does not go to Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and you can choose a custom tip of £0.00 if you prefer. These tips help JustGiving cover their costs and fees, but please don’t feel obliged to add one if you don’t want to or can’t afford to.
