Story
Last year, the AECOM team completed a 55km hike between Penzance and Kennack Sands, raising £1,600 for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
This year, we’re heading back to the South West Coast Path for a new challenge; a 55km hike over two days, from Falmouth to Par in Cornwall to raise money for the Memory Matters Foundation.
According to Alzheimer’s Research UK, one in two people in the UK will be affected by dementia in their lifetime, either by developing the condition themselves or by caring for someone who does. Currently, around one million people are living with dementia in the UK, a figure projected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040 as the population ages, increasing pressure on health, social care, and community services.
Memory Matters Foundation plays a vital role in supporting people affected by dementia across Plymouth, providing compassionate, practical, and educational services at every stage of the dementia journey. Dementia is not only a medical condition; it is a life changing experience that affects individuals, families, carers, and whole communities. The work of Memory Matters helps ensure that those living with dementia are not left isolated, unsupported, or navigating the system alone.
