London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

Immunodeficiency UK supports families with primary and secondary immunodeficiency. Immunodeficiency causes partial or full impairment of the immune system, leaving people unable to effectively resolve infections or disease. These disorders can be life-threatening and often need life-long care.

Story

This April, I am running the London Marathon and have decided to raise money for Immuno Deficiency UK. This is a charity very close to my heart. After my inaugural marathon in 2023 (Brighton), a LOT has happened with my health and I've been diagnosed with two chronic health conditions. First, CVID (common variable immunological disorder), which is a primary immune deficiency disorder meaning I have very low levels of antibodies (immunoglobulins) and therefore an inability to fight infection. Alongside this, I have bronchiectasis, a chronic lung condition caused by the frequent infections prior to diagnosis.

Diagnosis of these over the past year or so has been really tough, living with the realities of a body that doesn't quite work the way it should, the ongoing treatments (like my weekly infusions) and the changes in lifestyle I've had to make. However, I don't want it to hold me back. I am running the marathon to prove (to myself if no one else), that anything is possible and that against all odds, I'll be able to complete my second marathon (and hey, maybe even PB). I also really wanted to give back to a charity that has given me tools, support and advice to navigate and accept this new way of living.

I'd love for you to support me! Even £1 or £2 would be massively appreciated. Here's to keeping putting one foot in front of the other...

Thanks,

Aeron
