Aeryn's fundraiser for Mindstep Foundation

Aeryn Gale is raising money for Mindstep Foundation

Team: Team fundraising for Mindstep Foundation

Swansea half marathon · 7 June 2026

Mindstep was founded in memory of Max Davies who died by suicide at 22 years old in 2018. The charity funds mental health and suicide prevention research, awareness and support. We support vital research at the University of Glasgow, deliver ASIST courses and fund the training of counsellors.

Story

This year, I’m taking on a half marathon and a skydive to raise money for Mindstep Foundation, a charity that funds research into suicide and mental health.

This cause means a lot to me because mental health is still so misunderstood and often treated as taboo—but it shouldn’t be. The more we understand why people struggle, the better we can support them.

A few years ago, I went through a really difficult period with my mental health, including anorexia, suicidal thoughts, and a psychosomatic condition that became so severe I wasn’t able to walk, and I still deal with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) day to day.

That’s why this challenge means so much to me. Being able to train for and complete a half marathon now is something I never thought would be possible, and it shows just how much life can change.

I’m doing this to help raise awareness and support research so others can get the understanding and help they deserve.

If you’re able to donate or share, it would mean so much—thank you for supporting both me and this cause

************

The Mindstep Foundation has been established in memory of Max Davies, who tragically died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 22. Mindstep funds postgraduate research at the University of Glasgow into the causes of suicide and interventions for those at risk.

By funding research into the causes of suicide, and working to raise awareness of both the warning signs and consequences of mental health conditions going untreated, the Mindstep Foundation aims to break the stigma attached to admitting, confronting and dealing with mental health issues.
