The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families with a seriously ill child in hospital a comfortable place to stay and a friendly ear to listen in one of our ten ‘Homes from Home’. By providing families with somewhere to stay near their child they have one less thing to worry about.

Story

As a Club we have chosen to raise money and awareness for the Sick Children's Trust as they have helped one of our own , our cb Scott and his partner Florence, here's there story,

Never did we think we were in a position where our children were in hospital.

However when our identical twin boys were less than 3 weeks old, we found ourselves being blue lighted to hospital after calling 999 when both of our beautiful tiny babies stopped breathing.

We were swiftly transferred to Addenbrooke’s intensive care after our babies being put on ventilators and have never felt more overwhelmed and terrified.

We were immediately panicked thinking about how we would manage being 45 minutes from home and commuting back and forth daily, when all we wanted was to be by their bedside 24/7.

Within a few hours of arrival, we were told by a nurse that we would be given accommodation and I was led to the Sick Children’s Trust Building and given a warm and sensitive welcome and tour by a member of their team.

The building had a kitchen with everything you need to comfortably cook for weeks on end and store your own food and drinks. A children’s play room full of toys for siblings, a garden with more toys, a spacious living room and large spacious bedrooms all with sinks and built in wardrobes for getting comfortable with your things.

The staff were fantastic at understanding the sensitive situations everyone was in, and it was nice to speak to other parents/carers going through the same thing and sharing stories really helped.

The fact we were given lovely accommodation free of charge, meant we didn’t have to worry about the time commuting for 2 hours a day, we could be by their bedsides all day and all night as we were only a 5 min walk away.

All this would not be possible without the support of The Sick Childrens trust. As club we are extremely proud to make The Sick Childrens trust our charity and we hope to continue to raise money for a fantastic cause to help support families in such a terrible situation.
