Another Space is an education charity that initiatied and now produces the Lake District Holocaust Project. It commemorates the links between the 300 child Holocaust Survivors who came to the Lake District in 1945 and the community that welcomed them. The project has featured and been involved in many national and international media productions including the award winning The Windermere Children drama and documentary, and the BAFTA winning WDYTYA. The aim is for children today to be inspired by the remarkable resilience of the young survivors and to hand on their stories to future generations.

Story

PLEASE DON'T SPONSOR US FOR THE MINUTE. WE MAY HAVE TO POSTPONE. WILL UPDATE VERY SOON. WITH HUGE APOLOGIES,.

The children’s author, Tom Palmer, and his teacher friend, Simon Robinson (pictured here with Windermere Boy, Sir Ben Helfgott), are following up their fundraising feat of 2020 with a second bid to raise money for Lake District Holocaust Project.

They aim to raise £3000 by canoeing Windermere's 18 kilometres, climbing Scafell Pike's 978 metres and cycling everything in between.

With a combined age of 108, the two men will do this on 14th August 2023. The date and place are important. It will be 78 years to the day since 300 child Holocaust survivors arrived at Windermere as refugees.

Tom is the author of the book - AFTER THE WAR - that tells the story of those Windermere Children for children aged 10+. www.tompalmer.co.uk/after-the-war

AFTER THE WAR has been called "the best children’s fiction book I’ve read yet about the Holocaust" by the CEO of the Anne Frank Trust.

Tom was helped enormously to write AFTER THE WAR by the Lake District Holocaust Project, a charity that tells the Windermere Children’s story and fights prejudice through its museum in Windermere Library, through its website www.ldhp.org.uk and through a year-round programme of project work.

All the money Simon and Tom raise will go directly to fund the future work of Lake District Holocaust Project.
