Story
Lupus is a condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy parts of the body, affecting the joints, skin, kidneys and organs.
I’m raising money and awareness for lupus because this is a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
My aunt suffered with lupus for the majority of her life and growing up, I got to witness the impact it had on her and the decline in her health, losing her mobility being on oxygen and the pain and challenges she faced because of an illness that so many people still don’t fully understand, which was like me- when i was little i always thought she would get better but then losing her gave me an idea of how serious this illness can be.
Despite everything she went through, my aunt was the most joyful, kindest, funny loving and STRONGEST person I have ever known with the purest of hearts. She was always a positive bubble to be around and i always knew i had a supporter no matter what i did. She never let what she was going through take away the light she brought to the people around her. She will always be my biggest inspiration in life.
Seeing her health decline was incredibly difficult for our family . This year, she experienced her second major flare-up, in which I watched her suffer day after day in hospital for 14days . Seeing someone I loved so deeply in so much pain is something I will never forget. Ultimately after a long fight and so much pain she took her final breaths as i and her loved ones held onto her
Losing her in this way, and seeing how much she suffered throughout her life but especially in her final days, is will always be one of the hardest things ive gone through. She deserved so much more life. She had so much more love to give and so many more memories to make and so much fight left to give.
I’m raising money to help raise awareness of lupus and supporting those who are living with it because its not taught about enough or at all. Lupus isn’t just a word or a diagnosis to me. I have seen the reality of this illness and the devastating impact it can have on their loved ones and their family. I hope I can help more people understand lupus, support research to now hopefully help people going through the same thing.
This is for my aunt, for her memory, and for everyone living with lupus. 🤍
