Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, all donations are really appreciated.

A few words from Ali and Ciaran to help explain exactly what this charity means to them. They couldn’t have said it any better.

The truth is, if no one close to you in your life has a disability, you might not know the amazing work that Mencap do in the community. Danann was born with a highly unusual genetic makeup of a de novo deletion and duplication on chromosome 8. Due to this, he is profoundly disabled and will have lifelong struggles. He has attended the Mencap Centre this year for their 2-3 year-old programme which has been transformational for Danann and his family. Under the one roof, Danann gets the opportunity to have speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy - and a lot of fun! The people who care for him are exceptional, and they recognise and nurture his every intricate individual need. Mencap is remarkable: it is the one place in the community that welcomes Danann, with all his idiosyncrasies, with open arms and where he can be completely himself. He shouts with joy every time he arrives at their door - which is a testament to the love and care the staff provide. Mencap is a charity who relies on donations to support highly complex children like Danann, advocate for people with disabilities and give them a voice in society. Please support Aidso in his marathon to raise money for this very special place.
