Story
Hi all,
As many people will be aware, Josie, Jake, myself, Dave, Tony and Murph were in Marrakech on Friday 8th September when an earthquake that killed over 3,000 people occurred.
It was a terrifying night and the days that followed were very distressing to see the devastation that the earthquake left behind. We were fortunate, not only to come away unharmed, but to have had the privilege to fly back to our homes still standing and our families waiting for us.
So many Moroccan people have not had such luck, many with no homes to speak of and loved ones lost forever by the tragedy.
The biggest lesson we have learned is the power of kindness, and the Moroccan people showed us the true definition of what it means to be kind; even in their own heartbreak, they still cared for us, our safety and wellbeing. We want to be able to pay this kindness forward and help in any way we can.
Therefore, we are fundraising for The High Atlas Foundation, a charity which is supporting Moroccans in the aftermath of the earthquake. They also provide long term support; they plant and monitor trees for carbon offset units as a financial catalyst for water infrastructure, women’s cooperatives, education, and other community-designed initiatives to ensure long-term well-being.
On 21st and 22nd October, we will be walking 20 miles over two days around White Coppice/Rivington area, which would have been the same distance of our planned hike up Mount Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains.
Any support you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Similarly, if you fancy coming along for some or all of the walk, please let us know and we can pass on details.
