Ailis's fundraiser for DASH Dogs - Dream of a safe haven

Ailis Shannon is raising money for DASH Dogs - Dream of a safe haven

adidas Manchester Marathon 2026 · 19 April 2026 ·

DASH Dogs is the largest, licensed rescue shelter in Greece. We care for hundreds of abused, homeless, sick, injured and elderly dogs including many unwanted and abandoned puppies. Our shelter is run entirely by volunteers and is totally dependent on donations and sponsorship.

Story

This year I’m running the Manchester Marathon for a cause that means more to me than words can fully explain — Dash Dogs Rescue in Greece. Many of you know this charity holds a very special place in my heart, as I’ve spent the last two summers volunteering there and will be returning again this year for my third. The work they do is truly incredible. Shelter life is 24/7 — it isn’t just something they do, it *is* their life. Every single day they fight to give abandoned and abused animals a second chance.

Animal cruelty in parts of Greece is heartbreakingly common, and some of the stories behind these dogs are almost too painful to imagine. But thanks to Katerina and her amazing team at Dash, so many animals who would otherwise have no hope are rescued, treated, loved, and given the opportunity to find forever homes. Without donations and public support, their ability to save these lives is limited — and that’s why I want to help.

Back in 2024, on my very first day volunteering at Dash, I met a gentle giant called Tzivas, and it truly was love at first sight. Sometimes people say “when you know, you know,” and that was exactly how it felt. I just knew he belonged with us. Spending each day with him, learning about his past, completely broke my heart. He had been left in a ditch to die — unable to move, severely malnourished, dehydrated, matted to the bone, and covered in maggots and ticks. If it hadn’t been for Dash and the tireless work they put in for Tzivas, he wouldn’t be here today, and I would never have had the privilege of meeting him. I will forever be grateful for that, because he changed our lives just as much as we changed his.

Running this marathon is my way of giving something back — so that more dogs like Tzivas can have the second chance they deserve. Every donation, no matter how small, helps Dash continue their lifesaving work and gives another dog hope, safety, and love.

If you can support me, you’re not just sponsoring a run — you’re helping change a life🐾❤️
