Ailsa's Scottish coast to coast trek

Ailsa Falconer is raising money for Venture Scotland

Coast to Coast Trek across Scotland

Venture Scotland runs a unique progressive outdoor-based personal development programme over 5 months for young people aged 16-30, who face complex and difficult problems daily. We build their confidence and skills to empower each of them to reduce harmful behaviours and make positive choices.

Story

My fundraiser for Venture Scotland this year is a coast to coast trek across Scotland from Torridon to Montrose. It’s a distance of 312 kilometres (192 miles) over 16 days from 7-22nd May. I’ll be trekking with my friend Claire.

Venture Scotland is a charity close to my heart- I am a trustee and volunteer there. Every young person in Scotland has the right to lead a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life. At Venture Scotland, we believe that this can be achieved for young people through participation in our unique personal development programmes. Young people improve their self-awareness, social awareness and confidence by doing weekly outdoor-based activities, life-skill sessions, 1-to1 support sessions and remote bothy residentials in a group environment.

I’m not going to lie- i’m nervous about this trek, there’s lots that could go wrong, from blisters and chafing to equipment malfunctions and poor weather. It’s outside my comfort zone but we ask our participants at Venture Scotland to step outside their comfort zones every day and I see the huge changes our programme makes. So please help me to help them.
