Story
This April, I will be running the London Marathon for a charity that is extremely close to my heart: the Scottish Huntington’s Association.
Huntington’s disease has had a devastating impact on my family. My grandad sadly passed away from the condition in October 2020, and my mum subsequently received the heartbreaking diagnosis that she too has Huntington's and is now beginning to develop symptoms.
Huntington's disease is a genetic, inherited condition, meaning that each child of an affected parent has a 50% chance of developing it, so everyone in my family feels the impact of this disease.
It is a progressive and fatal disease, with symptoms typically beginning between the ages of 30 and 50. Huntington’s affects movement, thinking and mental health, having a devastating impact on those diagnosed and their families. Currently, there is no cure.
My mum's strength and resilience every single day motivates me to do everything I can to raise awareness and support research into treatments.
Every donation truly means the world to us all. The support provided by the Scottish Huntington’s Association is vital for families facing this condition.
Thank you so much everyones kindness and support mean more than I can put into words.
Love,
Ailsa 💙
