Story

Summary

My name is Aimee.

I’m 41 years old and a mum of two beautiful 10 year old girls.

And right now I am fighting Stage 4 cancer after being told in July I may only have a year to live.

I have children who need me to be around for them and I genuinely feel I have big positive work to do on this Earth.

I am NOT ready to let that life go.

Will you help me achieve my target towards life saving treatment?

My Story in More Detail.

In July, I was diagnosed with a rare and complex stage 4 mucous adenocarcinoma, which has spread to my ovaries and the lining of my abdomen.

Unfortunately, my doctors were not able to identify the original primary tumour so I apparently have an “cancer of unknown origin”. However the molecular characteristics of my cancer strongly suggest a lower-GI/colorectal origin.

My prognosis is up to one year if I do nothing.

My Oncology team have deemed chemotherapy to be an ineffective treatment choice for me as it would induce a toxic reaction in my body, I have been offered immunotherapy.

But after having extensive conversations with them and learning as much as I possibly can, I have made the very difficult and personal decision not to start immunotherapy at this point.

I have weighed up what I understand about my particular cancer, the potential benefits and the potential risks and toxicity of treatment, and the implication this could have on my ability to carry on being an amazing Mummy to my beautiful daughters. As such I have chosen to take a different path for now.

I know that other people in my position might make a completely different decision - cancer is a very personal and individual experience for each person. This is the choice I am making now for my own body, for my family and for my quality of life.

More About Me

As well as being a mum, I'm a yoga and meditation teacher, a cello teacher, and someone who has always loved being active, being outdoors, learning, teaching and, above all, spending time with the people I love.

While my prognosis is less than one year, the strange thing is:

I don't feel like someone who is dying.

I feel like me. I have absolute belief in my body's ability to heal. I take my little ones to school I teach my classes. I walk. I laugh with my children. I cook. I make plans.

While my energy fluctuates and I am working less, you will likely still see me out rollerblading with my girls, out walking on the beach and teaching a small amount of yoga and meditation classes locally.

I have so much life left in me. In many ways I feel nearly normal despite my challenging prognosis.

I would like to give myself the best chance of staying around to achieve my goals and make a difference in other people’s lives.

So What Am I doing?

Rather than sitting back and doing nothing, I am actively pursuing an integrative approach to my cancer care.

This currently involves a combination of:

🌿 Mistletoe infusions

🥦 Nutritional and dietary support

💊 Carefully selected supplements

👩‍⚕️ Consultations with my naturopath, functional medicine practitioner, alternative healing.

🧠 Support from a metabolic cancer coach

💊 Off-label medications that I am taking under professional guidance

🧘‍♀️ Lifestyle, exercise, meditation, breathwork and stress-management

🧪 Regular monitoring and investigations

These treatments are hugely expensive. My wonderful family have kindly funded the first few months of these treatments, however these funds are quickly running out and importantly, these are ongoing costs.

Whilst all of these treatments are amazing in themselves, and are helping me maintain a good quality of life, after extensive research and consultations I have found that the best option of success for me is Dendritric Cell Therapy which is available from Immunocine in Mexico. They have a very high success rate in healing cancer patients with complex types.

It is a form of personalised cellular immunotherapy which uses your own cells to fight the cancer.

The DCT isn’t available through the NHS and accessing it privately comes with a very substantial financial cost of around £100,000 which is, of course not affordable without funding support.

MY FUNDING GOAL

So, my long-term goal is to raise £150,000 towards both the ongoing monthly costs of treatment as well as raising enough to embark on a life saving treatment of personalised Dendritic-Cell Therapy.

I don't know what the future holds.

I cannot promise that this treatment will cure me. Nobody can.

But it does give me the best chance of beating this rare cancer than anything else out there right now.

I want to explore every responsible option that feels right for me while I am strong enough to do so.

Because when you have children, the meaning of £150,000 changes.

It's :

Another birthday.

Another family holiday.

Another school run.

Another cuddle.

Another laugh around the dinner table.

Another year of watching my children grow.

Another chance to teach, create, love and live.

Time to help others navigating a similar path.

That's what the money means to me.

WHY I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP

I have always been someone who believes in doing things rather than waiting for life to happen.

Yoga has taught me to stay present. Meditation has taught me to sit with uncertainty. Motherhood taught me that love can completely change your priorities.

And cancer has taught me something I always knew but never quite fully appreciated:

How incredibly precious ordinary life is.

I don't want a life defined by cancer.

I want to continue being a mum - to nurture and support my family

I want to continue to help others find who they truly are through meditation and yoga

I want to laugh

I want to wake up on an ordinary Tuesday morning and think:

"What shall we do today?"

I want more ordinary days.

So I'm fighting for them.

How can you help me?

If you can donate, thank you.

Whether it's £5, £20, £50, £100 or more, every contribution takes me another step forward.

And if you can't donate, sharing my story could be just as valuable.

You never know who might see it.

You never know who might have a connection, an idea, a fundraising opportunity, a treatment lead, or simply the ability to share my story with thousands of other people.

And if you do donate, please know this:

I won't see your donation as just money.

I'll see it as someone standing beside me.

Someone saying:

"Keep going, Aimee."

"We believe in you."

"You have more life to live."

And right now, that means everything.

Thank you for helping me fight for the life I love.

Aimee ❤️
