Story

Imagine hearing the worst possible news as a parent - that your child is seriously ill and not expected to live to be an adult.

Claire House helps parents create wonderful experiences for their children and bring back a sense of normality to family life. By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support, Claire House helps families smile again when life couldn’t get any tougher.

Your money can make a real different to a family who urgently need more support.

Going the Extra Mile for Claire House 💛

Hi! We're Kat, Áine, Meg and Catherine – and we are just a few of the members of our wonderful Palliative Care Team here at Claire House Children's Hospice.

This September, we're taking part in this crazy challenge to raise £2,000 for the incredible charity we're proud to be part of. We will be hiking, biking and kayaking our way around Snowdonia. Kat has bravely agreed to lead us (love her...but we're equally terrified of her when it comes to a competition 😉😂), while the rest of us will be doing our very best to keep up!

Every day, we have the privilege of caring for some of the bravest babies, children, young people and their families. It is almost impossible to articulate what our days look like, or what this work means to us, but we'll give it a go.

As a community team, our role is to bring specialist children's palliative care to families wherever they need us. We support families through every step of their journey. We work in partnership with local hospitals to help ensure families have genuine choice about where they receive their care, whether that be in hospital, at our hospice or at home. When so much feels beyond their control, being able to honour those wishes can make all the difference.

We are invited into people's lives during their darkest days, but we also witness extraordinary love, courage, resilience and moments of pure joy. It is a privilege we never take for granted, and it is why this challenge means so much to us.

There has never been a more exciting time to support Claire House. Alongside our 24-hour children's hospice on the Wirral, our Liverpool site is already providing day services for babies, children, young people and their families.

Now, following the fantastic news that planning permission has been granted, we're one step closer to transforming the Liverpool site into a purpose-built 24-hour children's hospice. This means Claire House will soon be able to support even more families across Liverpool, Cheshire and beyond to have greater choice about where their care is delivered. It will provide more opportunities for respite, specialist symptom management, memory-making and end-of-life care closer to home. It will also allow more families to create precious memories together in a warm, welcoming environment when every moment counts.

As Claire House asks its supporters to "Go the Extra Mile" to help make this vision a reality, we decided to do exactly that! Every step we take in this challenge will be for the children, young people and families who inspire us every single day. We all hold so many precious memories and stories, all of which will give us the boost we need when we feel like we absolutely cannot get to the top of those hills! We are doing it for our courageous babies, children and young adults, who's stories change us for the better year after year.

If you are able to support us, no matter how big or small the donation, you will be helping Claire House continue to provide extraordinary care today while building an even brighter future for the families who will need it tomorrow.

Please help us smash our £2,000 target and go the extra mile with us.

Because every family deserves the chance to make memories, right until the very end.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

Kat, Áine, Meg & Catherine 💛
