On the 7th June 2007, I give birth to baby girl born in Daisy Hill Hospital, where on her first day of life she became critically ill and was Blue lighted to Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children Belfast, to Paediatric intensive care unit. Professor Frank Casey give a diagnosis of Hypo-plastic Right Heart with Pulmonary atresia, intact ventricular septum and Tricuspid atresia. Whilst being treated her condition was deteriorating and she had to undergo emergency heart surgery at just 3 days old. Which had to take place in paediatric theatre as she was too critical to move to heart theatres (1st time this ever happened) which was over 12 hours long. After 6 weeks recovering we returned home for the first time. After only 4 weeks as her condition deteriorated and we returned back to hospital. There was further treatments and her little heart stopped for over 30mins which caused siezures. Miraculously she pulled through. From this I was informed by Neurology she would be unable to do simple things in her life such as smiling, sucking a bottle and the possibility of not being able to walk. After a futher 4 months in hospital, Blàithin was defying the odds by smiling and slowing taking a bottle. We returned home just in time for Christmas, and had regular check ups at the hospital.

On the morning of the 26th Feb 2008, Blaithin took a turn for the worst despite me giving her CPR until the ambulance arrived and took us to hospital. In which the staff in the ER department of the Royal Victoria hospital worked unconditionally to safe her little life, unfortunately this was not successful. Blaithin was taken by the angels of heaven at just 8 months old. I will never forget my journey through this time and kept a personal diary and photo of her everyday of her short life. I will never forget her infectious smile and the joys she gave me and my family.
