Story

Dear friends,

We are hoping to complete our 14th annual "Charity walk for the limbless".

You have been so generous in supporting our limb fitting charity over the years. Last year too we fitted about 500 limbs and repaired many more. Our services have now expanded to 4 centres Maho, Mankulam, Mulaitivu and Balapitiya.

It has been difficult to keep funding this expanded service given the background of rising costs. Our determined group of volunteer senior citizens - 50 of them ( avg: age about 75) will yet again do this charity walk despite their aching limbs and frail bodies.

In a third world nation such as Sri Lanka, limb loss remains a huge calamity for the entire family. Often affecting the main bread winner or carer, their dependents become destitute. Our efforts are to try and give them some semblance of dignity so that they may resume their role in the community.

Our motto being "waste not want not", we collect discarded prosthetic limbs from the UK and repurpose the expensive parts, such as the precision engineered joints to fabricate and supply new prostheses to the limbless folk. The cost of production of these prosthetic limbs is about £100-150 depending on the level of amputation. The normal NHS costs for new prosthetic limbs is between £500- 750.

To continue this noble effort, we need adequate funds and our band of donors very kindly contribute to a regular monthly donation scheme, which is inadequate to meet with the demands. Hence our annual charity-walk to cover the shortfall.

We would be most grateful if you would consider helping us again this year. We are planning two walks in Ticehurst, East Sussex on the week-end of 7th & 8th of June 2025.

Please support us so that we can make the limbless folk walk again.
