Story

Namaste,

My name is Ajina Karki, and I live in Sydney, Australia. I have always believed in helping others in their time of need, but today, I find myself in a situation where I am the one asking for help—not for myself, but for my 79-year-old grandmother, Dhan Maya Karki.

I brought my grandmother to Australia to attend my graduation ceremony, a special moment I wanted to share with her. She was supposed to return to Nepal at the end of February, but life took an unexpected turn. On December 5th, she suffered a stroke and was admitted to Westmead Hospital. Her right side is paralyzed, and she’s struggling to speak. It has been five days and the doctors have said she will need to stay under observation for at least 10 more days before they can determine the next steps for her care.

Unfortunately, an error I made while arranging her insurance has left us devastated. Because of this mistake, her insurance is not covering any of her medical expenses. We have tried everything we can to manage the costs, but the hospital bills are overwhelming and far beyond what we can afford.

It breaks my heart to see my grandmother in this condition. All I want is for her to recover and return home to Nepal with her health restored. I am humbly reaching out to you for your support during this difficult time. Even the smallest contribution will make a significant difference and bring us one step closer to giving her the care she desperately needs.

Your kindness and generosity mean more than words can express. Thank you from the depths of my heart.

Update

Aama is recovering gradually, and we are deeply grateful for your help and support. Her right side remains non-functional, but the physiotherapy team is doing their best. We hope to take Aama to Nepal as soon as she is stable enough to handle the flight. Once there, we plan to continue her treatment. Based on the doctor’s recommendation, Aama will need to be admitted to a private rehabilitation facility for further recovery. Considering the hospital bills and the estimated costs of the rehab facility, we had to increase the fundraising goal. We hope you understand our situation and continue to support us.
