We are running this 5K for our amazing, son, brother, husband, daddy, uncle, friend ....... Jason Bagshaw!
Who is Jay ?!
Jay is a Daddy to;
Harrison, Ellie, Lydia, Josh, Noah & Serenity.
Jay is a son to Archie and Carol.
Jay is a brother to Jean, Jess, Neil and Sharon.
Jay is a Monkey, a husband to Leanne, he lives with in Hindley, with our 5 year old Serenity.
Jay is a friend, a neighbour and more to, too many people to mention
We moved to Hindley from Manchester in 2022, when Jay found, what he described as "Our Forever Home", it took Leanne some convincing to leave Manchester, but he made it happen and we moved to Hindley where we knew we had found our forever home, we instantly fell in love with the neighbours, the area, the locality !
In November 2023, our World got torn apart. We went to Wigan A&E with what we thought was sinusitis at 12pm, to be sat down at 5pm to be told they had found a High Grade Tumour/s.
In December, the morning after my 40th birthday where Jay had organised a birthday celebration, we went to Salford Royal at 6am, for him to undergo brain surgery, where his amazing surgeon Helen Maye, managed to remove most of the tumour.
After weeks of agonising appointments etc, The diagnosis was a Stage 4 Glioblastoma.
He then underwent 6 weeks of radio and chemotherapy at the Christie Hospital in Wilmslow, under his lovely oncologist Dr. Colaco.
Those of you who know Jay, know the fitness devoted person he is, but for those that don't, we met through his love of fitness and nutrition where he would do all he could to educate and pass his passion on for everything from bootcamps, to sprints to trailblazing to general clean eating... he however always forgot to mention his love for chocolate !
Jays, always empowered and encouraged people on their fitness journeys and to be part of his journey to fight cancer has been one of hope and determination, and we wouldn't have been able to do it, without the support of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
On 17th March 2024, Jason had an unexpected seizure, where we were told he wouldn't recover / wake up...... 48 hours later, our superman woke up and we went home under the amazing care of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, we were allocated a Hospice Nurse and we started receiving holistic therapies and counselling via the hospice.
In the months that followed we have been able to make gorgeous memories with holidays to Wales, Lytham, Conwy, Blackpool, along with many memorable events at home, including this Christmas and New Year.
Palliative treatment continued, helping in keeping the tumour stable, until October where, we learnt a further tumour had developed within the brain stem. Jay continued with further chemotherapy until December, where we were told, the tumours had progressed and we were sent home from Hospital 22nd December to live our life's as comfortable as possible with the care of Wigan and Leigh Hospice to support us from home.
Jay's fighting each day, despite his diagnosis and we plan to run on behalf of him to bring his energy for life to the forefront but also to run for a charity that has looked after him and his family in a time of trauma. We want to raise money, to support families in similar situations and to support the hospice to care for those in need.
As a group we run as;
Leanne- Wife / Baby to Jason, running as he taught me " heel toe, Leanne, Heel Toe! " to keep his vibrancy for life alive and ensure we continue to improve the support available for anyone that may have to go through, what Serenity, Jason and I have had to.
Chris & Frank - We run for our wonderful, attentive, caring and devoted; hilarious friend, Father of our beautiful God Daughter Serenity, & best man at our wedding. Thank you Jay Jay for all the good you bring to our lives and all those fortunate enough to know you. We will run our little socks off and do you proud.
Allie - When the Bagshaws moved in next door in April 2022, we quickly bonded over Easter eggs and wine. Since then, our families have become very close friends. Since his brain tumour diagnosis, Jay, Leanne and family have been nothing short of amazing, showing incredible strength and resilience through a very difficult and emotional time.
I’m proud to be part of Team Jaybo and to take on the Wigan 5k for Jay—an incredible husband, father, brother, and neighbour who has truly become a cherished friend.
Chloe - I run for the beautiful friend who I met and made it his mission to ensure my physical and mental health was always at the forefront in a time that I needed it the most. I also run for the Jaybo that always ensures our drinks were filled up.
Donna - I run for a friend who came to Hindley a stranger and soon became a friend.
As a group, we plan to raise as much as we can for a charity that has been amazing to us at an extremely difficult time.
