Story
Pelican Parcels works in Brighton & Hove to recycle pre-loved essential items for babies and children aged 0-12. We take them from families who no longer need them and give them to children who do. Volunteers sort toys, clothes, books, furniture and equipment and we share with families in need.
Pelican Parcels’ vision is a community in which families and carers have the essentials for their children. Our mission is to alleviate poverty by providing new and preloved children’s essentials to babies and children.
I chose to raise funds for a local Hove charity to inspire me through the dark and cold winter mornings, and my mother-in-law suggested Pelican Parcels. She is one of the volunteers who spends time sorting through donations. Having told me about the Pelican Parcel story and the support it gives to families needing support, I realised it is just the sort of charity I wanted to run the Brighton Marathon for.
So please donate what you can in the knowledge that it will be going towards a very worthwhile cause.
Thanks!
Update with just over 4 weeks to marathon day.
Finally I can run and it is light in the morning 🙂. I knew it was always going to be a challenge keeping up the training schedule during the winter months, but really pleased I am through it and out the other side.
I am in the middle of the weeks where each weekend is a long run, 3 hours or 18 miles this weekend. So I am (hopefully) getting used to what it will feel like when marathon day arrives.
Thanks to all my supporters, I can’t believe how generous you have been and rest assured the money will be going to a great charity supporting families in difficult situations.
Marathon done! Thanks to my family and Ben/Caleb for all the support. Tougher than I thought but finished with a flourish. Thanks again to all my fantastic supporters who donated so very generously. I am sure the money will be used wisely to support families in Brighton & Hove in difficult situations.
