Story
One Dodgy Knee, 50km of Yorkshire, and Absolutely No Excuses Left
Let me set the scene.
It's February 2026. I'm fresh out of knee surgery, horizontal on a sofa, watching daytime TV, convincing myself I'm "recovering strategically." Meanwhile, my colleagues at Agilio are signing up to walk 50km across the rugged hills of North Yorkshire.
I was bullied into signing up and it seemed like a good idea at the time. To be fair, I've bottled out of the last three Agilio challenges, so excuses are officially in short supply.
Why Am I Doing This?
Partly for an incredible cause. Partly for the camaraderie. Partly because I apparently have the long-term memory of my Labrador, Loki and forgot that knees are load bearing.
But mostly — for Ripple Suicide Prevention.
Ripple does genuinely vital work protecting people at their most vulnerable. Every mile we walk (or in my case, hobble determinedly) raises money that funds their technology, their outreach, and their ability to be there when people need help most. That matters. A lot.
I'm one of several colleagues from Agilio taking on Ultra Challenges across the UK this year — my leg is the North Yorkshire Ultra on 20th June. However far we each go, we're all walking for the same reason.
The Knee Situation (A Brief Medical Drama)
Surgery: early February ✅
Recovery (Knee-hab): in the very capable hands of my coaches at Barbelle Scarborough ✅
Physio exercises I definitely do every single day without fail: ✅ (mostly)
Coaches' patience with me: saintly ✅
Colleagues' belief in me: suspiciously high ✅
By June, I fully intend to be striding across North Yorkshire with quiet dignity. The knee will cooperate. My coaches and physio have spoken to it firmly (and they're far more intimidating than I am).
How You Can Help
Your donation — whatever you can spare — goes directly to Ripple Suicide Prevention and the incredible work they do every day.
You don't have to walk 50km. You don't need a functioning knee. You just need to click the button below.
That's the easy part. I've got the hard part covered.
Thank you — from me, my knee, and everyone at Ripple 💙
