Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For my 80th birthday, I’ll be walking 102 miles alongside the Settle–Carlisle railway with my friend Michael Harris, who is 83.
Over eight days in June, we’ll be following one of the most beautiful railway routes in the country to raise money for Endometriosis UK, a charity supporting people living with endometriosis and campaigning for better care, awareness and research.
We have chosen this cause because this debilitating condition is affecting the lives of four close friends. Like many others, they have experienced years of pain, exhaustion and disruption to everyday life before receiving proper diagnosis and treatment.
Endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK — around 1.5 million people. Despite this, it still takes on average 8 years and 10 months to receive a diagnosis in the UK.
The condition occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere in the body, causing chronic pain, fatigue and, for some, fertility problems. There is currently no known cure.
