Alan's fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK

alan Reed is raising money for Parkinson’s UK

Walking the West Highland Way · 12 September 2025

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's.

I always wanted to walk the West Highland Way. My diagnosis made me realise that there was no time like the present. I have no idea how the condition will develop, or what the effects will be. So I decided to go ahead and attempt the walk. My partner, Anne, suggested I fund-raise while walking. So here we are.

As I said in my blog (which is about my diagnosis and my reaction to it) - https://3hobbitsblog.wordpress.com/2025/05/08/about-me-again/

''Give- as you would for a sponsored walk. Do it because you believe that research is still needed. Do it as you would for a friend. Do it most of all as a way of showing you care. Not just about me, but because you yourself could find yourself in a similar predicament."
