Story
#TeamReuben
Reuben has been through more in three years than most people do in a lifetime. He was born with a rare kidney condition and has had numerous surgeries since he was a baby. When he was just 15 months old, he became seriously ill and ended up in critical care at Alder Hey. Since then, Reuben and his family spent so much time there — especially on Ward 3C — and the team have honestly been incredible with us.
Reuben was on dialysis for 747 days straight, a minimum of 12 hours every day, which Max and Sophie learned to do at home. It completely changed their lives, but they just got on with it and made it work for him.
On 4th September this year, Max (his dad) donated his kidney to Reuben. Thankfully, the transplant went really well, and they've seen such a difference since — he’s full of energy, eating properly, and his little personality is shining through.
