Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
When I was in my thirties my father was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer (he was 65), at a time when the available options were very limited (early 1990's). Because his cancer was caught early, he underwent a full prostatectomy and despite enduring complications, he went on to live until 89 and it was old age that took him in the end.
I resolved in my fifties to request regular checks from my GP and was fortunate enough to be put on a six monthly screening program. My PSA gradually rose over the ensuing ten years until an MRI established I had a shadow on the prostate that warrented further investigation.
I was diagnosed with early stage Prostate Cancer in 2022 and had a full prostatectomy in March 2023. Unlike my father (who endurd some pretty uncomfortable side effects), my operation has been without any side effects and life is pretty much as normal as one could hope for.
My outcome has been so much less complicated thanks directly to the onging research that happens every day in the pursuit of reducing the impact of Prostate Cancer on men and the Families
There is of course, a need for continued SCREENING and RESEARCH.
It has been unequivocally proven that EARLY DIAGNOSIS SAVES LIVES!
The drive for a national screening program deserves support and the legislators must be persuaded that this is the right path to follow!
Prostate Cancer Research are dedicated to creating brand new prostate cancer treatments. Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into reality.
Their vision is clear; a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. I’m part of #TeamPCR because I share this vision. Will you help me support their research?
