Story
It's been two years since my Dad passed and having recently become a Dad myself ( again for the fourth time! ) it made me think, and reminded me that life, family and friends, are really precious and that I should, could, be doing more to help protect not only myself but others, especially our children, from the cruel disease that killed my Dad ( and other people I know who have died or live with it ).
So I thought, what could I do? The one thing I do best...... I decided to put on my running shoes and try to raise some money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society, so that one day the world can be rid of this vile disease.
Now this is where Claire 'my darling wife' is going to kill me when she realises what I've signed up to......
I wasn't fortunate enough to get a place in the London Marathon in April, so I have signed up for the 'Virtual' London Marathon ( run 26.2 miles on the day of the actual event ) however with a whole bunch of other crazy people I've found online ( and a couple of friends ), I will be running the actual London Marathon route backwards, starting at a minute past midnight on the day of the actual event. Hopefully I will be finished in time and still awake enough to watch the start of the actual London Marathon after my run.
In May I will be running in the Great Bristol Half Marathon, which is a 13.1 mile route around some amazing landmarks in Bristol, evening passing under the world-famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
In June I have signed up for a slightly different type of 10km running event, the Bath Two Tunnels Railway Run, which involves running through old disused railway tunnels for a large part of the course.
In September this year, I will be taking part in the Great North Run 'the world's biggest' Half Marathon event, running alongside 60,000 other people from all over the world, on an epic 13.1 mile route from Newcastle to South Shields.
And then the finale, the Great South Run in October, where I will be running the 10 mile route in a yet to be decided fancy dress outfit, having previously worn a Tutu, a Crab costume and last year I was a Banana ( ideas for, or costume donations welcome ) high fiving as many children ( and adults ) as I can on route.
Help me make a little difference by supporting me and donating if and what you can ( no pressure )
UPDATE. I've decided to add another run, the Roundhill 21k New Forest Trail Run on November 30th, just for fun. Hopefully the scenery will make it worth it.
Thank you xx
