The Edith Borthwick School is a severe and complex learning difficulties special needs school in Braintree, Essex catering for 245 students from 3-19yrs. The Friends of the school is a charity run by parents & staff to raise funds to enhance the whole school experience for the children.

Story

Alan, Ian, and Gill are taking part in the annual 72 hole golf challenge again this year to raise, much needed, funds for Alan's son, Jake's school, The Edith Borthwick School. The challenge takes around a gruelling 12 hours to complete, covering 29 miles whilst carrying and swinging their clubs. They're crawling by the end of it!

Jake is thriving at Edith Borthwick so this our way of giving something back to them for all the hard work and dedication that they show to Jake on a daily basis.

The school is a specialist provision for children and young adults with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and autism.

The impact the school and it's staff have on all the children is wonderful. Their aim is to put learners at the heart of everything that they do with the vision ‘Enabling everyone to reach and go beyond their potential’.

The young SLD, PMLD and autistic learners have lifelong neurodevelopmental and physical disabilities that affects how they experience, communicate and interact with the world around them.

The world can feel unpredictable, confusing, frightening, baffling and overwhelming, causing stress and anxiety impacting emotional well-being. The school have the opportunity and privilege to provide a safe, stable, predictable environment.

Fundraising is currently underway to enable the school to purchase an accessible swing and communication boards. Specialist play equipment that all learners can access costs thousands of pounds to purchase and install.
