Story
Hello, thanks for coming to my page!
I will be swimming from Dover, to Cap Gris-Nez in France, as part of a swim relay with 5 others. We will swim under channel swimming rules (swim suit only, goggles and swim hat). Add in the waves, cold, jelly fish, sounds fun, no?
A little about me. I have Lymphedema, which means I have a dodgy lymphatic system, mainly in my legs. It is something I’ve had for 8 years, there is no cure- I need to look after it daily and forever, through compression garments and other lifestyle factors. I don’t talk about it often, and I quietly look after my condition.
I was hugely inspired during the summer 2024 Paris Paralympics, seeing an athlete with lymphedema called Didi Okoh compete and win bronze in 100m sprint.
I had already signed up for this relay by then, and had taken part in a few longer distance open water events. Watching Didi and others competing in their sport, alongside their own conditions, began to encourage me to be more open about mine.
And so here I am- dodgy lymphatic system and all, swimming across the English Channel in a relay and raising money for an excellent charity at the same time.
