Story

Alan’s love for football began where so many lifelong passions do — standing beside his dad at his very first Oxford United match at just five years old. From that moment on, the game became a huge part of who he was. Over the years, he held a season ticket and rarely missed the chance to follow the team he loved.

Football wasn’t just a hobby for Alan — it was something he lived and breathed. He had an incredible knowledge of the game, able to recall players, matches, and moments in remarkable detail. Conversations with Alan often turned into deep dives into football and other sports, delivered with such enthusiasm that you couldn’t help but be drawn in — even if you had to gently interrupt him after a while.

But what truly defined Alan wasn’t just his passion for sport — it was his heart. He was an exceptionally caring person who supported everyone he met. He gave his time, his energy, and his attention freely, always wanting to lift others up.

This fundraiser aims to carry that spirit forward in a way Alan would have truly loved. By supporting grassroots football, we can help nurture young people’s passion for the game — giving them the same sense of joy, belonging, and excitement that football gave Alan throughout his life.

In doing so, we also honour his unwavering support for Oxford United, with hopes of seeing the club continue to grow and succeed — just as Alan always believed they would.

Through this, Alan’s legacy lives on: in every young player encouraged, every opportunity created, and every shared love of the beautiful game.
