Prison2Prison: Breaking the Cycle. 1,400+ Miles. £15,000 Target. · 26 May 2026

Pact is a national charity that provides support to prisoners, people with convictions, and their families. We support people to make a fresh start, and minimise the harm that can be caused by imprisonment on people who have committed offences, on families and on communities.

Story

Prison2Prison: Breaking the Cycle

1,400+ Miles. £15,000 Target.

As I turned 75 earlier this year, I decided to mark the occasion in a way that feels meaningful.

So in May and June I will be cycling more than 1,400 miles across the country travelling from prison to prison, connecting with the very institutions where Pact works every day.

My aim is simple: to raise at least £15,000 for Pact (Prison Advice and Care Trust), and to shine a light on the lives behind the prison gates.

Why This Ride Matters to Me

As a Trustee and the Treasurer of Pact, I have the privilege of seeing up close the extraordinary work the Charity does supporting children separated from parents, helping families stay connected, and walking alongside men and women as they prepare to rebuild their lives.

But I also see how fragile that journey can be.

Leaving prison is rarely straightforward. Housing, employment, family relationships, confidence, all must be rebuilt, often from very little. Without the right support, too many people find themselves pulled back into a cycle that benefits no one.

I want this ride to draw attention to that reality and to raise funds that make practical, life-changing support possible.

Why Prison2Prison: Breaking the Cycle?

The route is deliberate.

I will cycle to 60+ prisons, highlighting both the scale of the prison estate and the national reach of Pact’s work across the country.

But the “strap line” means something more.

Breaking the cycle of reoffending

Breaking the cycle of family separation

Breaking the cycle of disadvantage that can pass from one generation to the next.

This won’t be a one-day event. It will take sustained effort over several weeks which feels fitting. Rebuilding a life also takes sustained effort. Progress rarely happens overnight.

How You Can Help

I am aiming to raise £15,000 in unrestricted funding. This matters because it allows Pact to respond flexibly wherever the need is greatest.

Your donation will help to:

• Keep families connected during imprisonment

• Support people to find stability and hope on release

• Strengthen communities by reducing reoffending

• Sustain trusted services across England and Wales

At 75, I could have chosen a quieter way to mark the year.

Instead, I’ve chosen the saddle.

If you’re able to support this challenge, I would be deeply grateful. Every mile I ride will be fuelled by the knowledge that together we are helping to break the cycle.

Thank you.
