Milan Marathon · 7 April 2024

Due to oxygen deprivation at birth Evie suffered from severe brain damage and her family were told she wouldn't survive. Miraculously Evie lived for 3 years, but needed 24/7 care. Overnight respite at home was invaluable to her family. In her memory we now help to raise funds for other families.

Story

Hi All,

Hoping you can support us on a marathon endeavour.

This journey originally started as a birthday present for my wife (Julie) – it was one of her goals to complete a marathon in her 40th year. Turns out, this was not the most romantic gift, so she has roped me into doing it as well.

We are booked on the Milan marathon, which is set to start on Sunday April 7th, and we have been training for this since Christmas.

The plan was to just make it to the finish line and mark the 40th birthday with kilos of pasta. But then I was invited to the official launch of an amazing charity.

Evie’s Night Owls’ purpose is to facilitate access to funding for families with dependents who have life-limiting or terminal illnesses or conditions, enabling them to access overnight respite care in their own homes. As parents ourselves, this hit us right in the emotions and if we didn’t have it before, we certainly have the motivation to drag our bodies along the 42,195m worth of Italian roads.

To give it some context – every £250 we raise means one night of respite care for a family that desperately needs it.

Thanks

Stefan and Julie
