Story
George and I will be cycling the North Coast 500, a 516 mile route in the Scottish Highlands in memory of our dear friend Clara who sadly died while having an epileptic seizure in Zimbabwe. Having travelled with Clara for two months prior to this, her energy, enthusiasm and zest for life had a great impact on George and I. Clara was one of the most amazing, kind and generous people I have ever met with a huge heart.
The idea to cycle the North Coast 500 was actually sparked when travelling with Clara in Kenya. We were having our usual daily chit chat and we came across the topic of Scotland, where Clara lived, and the idea of getting lost in the Scottish Highlands really excited us.
Epilepsy had a huge impact on Clara's life due to constant seizures during the day or at night. However, this did not stop her living life to the full. She was one of the most adventurous and outgoing people and never said no to a cool idea. The Epilepsy Research Institute UK is a charity that brings attention and understanding to Epilepsy and any support will be greatly appreciated. We aim to raise funds in order to improve the outcome for people with hard to control epilepsy just like Clara's. We also want to raise funds to improve the statistics which Clara was given where 'any new drug has a 90% change of making you feel really awful and inly a 10% chance of reducing your seizures'.
This trip is intended to be both a fun adventure and a meaningful challenge, and with Clara alongside us every step of the way, plus the support of everyone around us, we’re confident we can achieve this incredible goal.
