Running for Aldbourne Band – Swindon Half Marathon 2026

On 27th September, three members of Aldbourne Band will be swapping their instruments for running shoes as we take on the Swindon Half Marathon!

Jane and Ali (3rd Cornets) and Andy (2nd Baritone) are challenging themselves to run 13.1 miles to raise money for Aldbourne Band, a registered charity dedicated to promoting brass band music and providing musical opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

Aldbourne Band is far more than a championship brass band – it's a community organisation with a proud heritage dating back to 1860. Based in the Wiltshire village of Aldbourne, the band has spent over 160 years bringing high-quality brass music to audiences through concerts, contests and community events. From the much-loved summer Pond Concerts and Proms on the Green to Christmas morning carols around the village, the band is at the heart of local life while also performing on some of the biggest stages in the brass band world.

Today, Aldbourne Band consists of three bands. The Senior Band competes at the highest level of brass banding, consistently ranking amongst the world's top 20 bands. Recent successes include winning the 2025 West of England Championship, and the band regularly performs at prestigious events including the British Open, the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain Finals and Brass in Concert.

Equally important is the band's commitment to developing the next generation of musicians. Through its Youth and Junior Bands, Aldbourne provides instruments and performance opportunities for children and adults of all ages and abilities. As a registered charity, its aim is to promote, maintain and advance the appreciation of brass band music by presenting public performances and making music accessible to everyone, ensuring that people can discover the enjoyment, confidence and friendships that come from playing together.
