For over 25 years, Little John's has been a secure home for children and adults with special needs and a centre for respite care. Our centre provides invaluable respite care for families who have children with additional needs and also children living in institutions.

Story

Alec Zaharia was involved in a tragic quad bike accident and despite his bravery, died at the young age of only 20.

For those of you who were lucky enough to have met Alec, you would know how close Little John's House was to his heart. He seemed to come to life when he came to Romania. He always showed incredible patience and kindness with all the children at the summer school and was like a brother to the residents of the house who all loved him dearly. Alec was a true example of what Little John's House stands for.

It only makes sense to set up a fund for Little John's House in Alec's name as he would have wanted. If you were wondering how on earth you could possibly help the Zaharia family in a time like this, a donation of any size would be an incredible help in keeping this wonderful place alive.

For those who aren't aware, Little John's House is a children's home in Cisnadioara; Romania where six young people with additional needs currently live. In the summer, Little John's House also plays home to a summer school. With the help of many priceless volunteers, the Summer School gives children with special needs from in and around Sibiu the chance for fun and a change of scenery, since the education system does not always cater to their needs. In the words of one volunteer: “Many children from the hospital have been abandoned by their parents, due to lack of support for families and the stigma attached to having a handicapped child. Those living at home are often locked away from the rest of the world, in high-rise apartment blocks. Whilst there are, of course, those lucky ones who have loving families, the majority of handicapped children in Romania do not have the opportunity to go to school even if they are of normal intelligence, so to provide a fun learning environment even for just one week is an education in itself.”
