In 2024 my mum went to the GP for the second time for swollen ankles she had a course of antibiotics which didn’t help. After a ECG an ambulance was called. She spent 17 days in Whipps cross hospital after being diagnosed with heart failure after an angiogram at Bart’s.

The nurses called her Mama and reassured me everyday I was leaving her in good hands. I will forever be grateful to the team especially nurses Liso and Angus on the Elizabeth ward. After losing my Dad to a heart attack in 2008 it was a scary time. So 8 years after doing a 10K for the BHF to mark my Dad’s anniversary we go again

I wanted to take part in the Barts Charity Hike for Health in September to say Thank You to Bart’s Hospital for all the support they have given my parents.

My mum has been under Whipps Cross/Barts Hospital for numerous years but her heart health deteriorated badly in 2021 when Bart’s tried several procedures to try and remedy the situation.

In recent times the GUCH nurses clinical team together with Dr Sawhney and the pacemaker device clinic have been very informative, supportive and offer much appreciated help when possible,

My Dad was also very impressed with the care he received in 2022 when he went into Bart’s hospital to have an adenoma removed from his lung, This was diagnosed during a PET scan checking on his prostate cancer. He found the nurses and doctors there to be very professional and kind.

I’m Looking forward to lacing up my trainers and walking the 21k route with my good friend Alev whose family has also been affected by cardiovascular disease.

We will be taking part in Barts Hike for Health 2026 to support Barts Charity.

Barts Charity goes above and beyond for families across East London - funding pioneering research, supporting NHS staff, and helping to improve wards across the five hospitals of Barts Health NHS Trust with state-of-the-art equipment.
