Story

10,000 Push Up Challenge

The fundraiser:

Inspired by Cancer Research UK’s ‘100 Push-Ups a Day Challenge’, myself (Alex), and my two good friends Freddie and Dan hope to be able to achieve 10,000 pushups to fundraise for C.F Trust. This will roughly work out to be 111 pushups a day, and we intend to complete this challenge throughout the month of November, starting on the 1st and ending on the 30th of the month. We’ll record the pushups and keep anyone who is interested in the loop via social media.

About Cystic Fibrosis:

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. This may cause malnutrition, poor growth, frequent respiratory infections, breathing problems, and chronic lung disease. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. It is a condition that so many are unfamiliar with, often causing those who suffer with it to do so in silence, or without the sympathy that should be shown towards their brave battle.

Why CF?

We have picked CF Trust to fundraise for because of my brother, Josh (he doesn’t know I’m doing this so if you’re reading this, hi Josh). Josh, who turns 28 this year, is the most courageous person I know. My hero growing up, he’s never been one to complain despite not having it easy with his condition. Not many know outside of his family and close friends how much he’s had to fight to seem ‘fine’, often to ‘not cause a fuss’ or because he didn’t want to be treated any differently. This fundraiser is as much a show of respect to the brilliant man he’s become as it is a fundraiser.

Thank you to anyone who gets involved, even if it’s sharing this page and not donating. We hope to get a decent bit of money donated to support the brilliant work at C.F Trust, but spreading the word about C.F is just as important if it starts conversations. More people who suffer with the condition deserve the support that Josh has received to help them turn out as healthy and as happy as he is now.

Also a big thank you to Freddie and Dan, who didn’t need to get involved with this challenge but happily volunteered without me having to ask. I couldn’t have picked two better people to do this with.
