Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many of you will know that my passion for Perinatal Mental Health began following my own lived experience of Postpartum Psychosis (PP) in 2018.
I was lucky enough to survive PP and to recover, thanks to the support of friends and family, and due to the provision of a specialist Perinatal Mental Health team in my local trust area. Unfortunately, at the time, this was something of a postcode lottery, and many who suffered similarly will not have been lucky enough to receive specialist Perinatal Psychiatric care.
Although I had the special privilege of a dedicated Perinatal Mental health team, the facilities in which my treatment was provided were truly unacceptable, and, tragically, the case remains the same today. While mothers in mainland UK have access to one of 22 Mother and Baby Units, we are still, despite 15 years of campaigning, without a Mother And Baby Unit on the island of Ireland.
I am hoping to raise £350 for Maternal Mental Health Allowance, who have supported the campaign for a new Mother and Baby Unit in NI and continue to champion the cause of mothers who suffer with mental ill health.
I count it a blessing to have recovered, and am dedicated to raising awareness and funds for this vital campaign. The truth is, many mothers don't survive perinatal mental health challenges, and suicide is still the leading cause of death among mothers in the first postpartum year. I will continue to campaign for them, and for the next generation of mothers.
If you can spare £10 or £20 to give the the cause, it would be greatly appreciated.
