Story
I’m running the 2026 Berlin Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
For those who know me, you know I’m usually the one fixing injuries...sometimes running through them. Between the ages of 16 and 20, I went through four knee surgeries. Those years cost me a lot—I lost my footy, my identity, and lived in chronic pain that made me feel pretty useless as a young bloke. Specialists told me I’d probably never run again.
It took me until I was 23 to get out of that hole. When I finally cleared the chronic pain, I decided to see what the body could actually do. I ran my first marathon 12 months later just to prove I could.
Now, as an Exercise Physiologist, I work with people every day who are fighting their own battles. I’ve seen firsthand that while I had to fight to get my movement back, others are fighting a much harder battle to keep their memories.
I work closely with a client who has been living with Alzheimer's for six years. Seeing his resilience in the gym—and the toll this disease takes on his family—is the reason I chose this fundraiser. I’m running Berlin not for a time, but to also raise funds for a cure.
Prevention is the best tool possible, but we need a cure for those already going through it.
I’m self-funding the trip and guaranteeing the minimum donation myself, so 100% of whatever you give goes straight to the research.
Thanks for the support.
Alex
